Position Summary:
SUNY Ulster County Community College, a two-year branch of the State University of New York located ninety miles north of New York City in the Catskill Mountains, is currently accepting applications for a Dean of Academics.The Dean of Academics reports to the Vice President of Academic Affairs and serves as a key academic leader responsible for overseeing curriculum development, faculty affairs, instructional quality, and student academic achievement. This position ensures that academic programs align with institutional goals, accreditation standards, and workforce demands. The Dean collaborates with faculty, staff, and administrative leadership to foster academic excellence, innovation, and student success at SUNY Ulster.
Academic Initiatives:
- Develop and implement strategic initiatives, aligning them with the institution's mission and goals.
- Develop and implement innovative academic success strategies that enhance student persistence and completion.
- Ensure and promote teaching and learning excellence.
- Directs and supervises team for internship experiences.
Curriculum Development:
- Guide curricular development ensuring it meets academic standards and relates to student needs.
- Ensure curriculum compliance with SUNY and state requirements.
- Collaborate with faculty and department chairs to integrate student success initiatives into curriculum and instructional design.
Support & Engagement
- Ensure equitable access to academic resources and services for all students, particularly those from underrepresented and underserved backgrounds.
- Oversee the development and implementation of first-year experience programs, success coaching, and early alert systems.
- Foster partnerships with faculty, student services, and community organizations to enhance student engagement and learning support.
- Support initiatives related to guided pathways, academic advising, and student retention
- Oversee and coordinate academic support services, such as tutoring, writing centers, coaching, and counseling services.
- Identify and address student challenges, providing timely intervention and support to ensure student success.
- Provide guidance, mentoring, and support for faculty and staff to foster a positive and productive learning environment.
- Promote a culture of continuous improvement through data-driven decision-making
- Support the Vice President for Academic Affairs to ensure Academic policies and procedures are implemented.
Accreditation, Assessment, Institutional Effectiveness, Integrity, and Compliance:
- Utilize data analytics and institutional research to measure the effectiveness of student success initiatives and make evidence-based recommendations.
- Lead efforts in assessing student learning outcomes and academic support services to enhance program effectiveness.
- Oversee timely execution of faculty and staff contractual requirements.
- Monitor academic integrity and ensure that students and faculty adhere to ethical standards.
Dual Enrollment and Academic Partners:
- Oversees dual enrollment initiatives including P-tech, and Collegian as well as the college’s Prison Education Program.
Collaboration and Advocacy:
- Advocate for the interests of the academic unit and its faculty, staff, and students.
- Serve as an advocate for student success by engaging with faculty, staff, and external partners to align academic support services with institutional goals.
- Collaborate with the Office of Institutional Effectiveness, Enrollment Management, and Student Affairs to support holistic student development.
- Represent the college at regional and national conferences on academic success and student retention.
Minimum Qualifications:
- Three years of teaching experience at the college level.
- Experience working in a community college.
- Master’s Degree in a related field.
And
- Commitment to community college goals and objectives of providing quality programs and services for culturally, socio-economically, ethnically, and academically diverse students and students with disabilities; personal qualities to work effectively and with sensitivity in a multicultural environment; awareness of and commitment to the needs of non-traditional and/or re-entry students with diverse abilities and interests.
Preferred Qualifications
- Five years of teaching at the college level.
- Prior experience working in Academic Affairs.
Salary:
An initial starting salary of $87,000 - $92,000 annually will be commensurate with education, training, and experience with an excellent benefits package. This position is contingent upon adequate funding.Additional Information
